This training is grounded in three core principles:

Physiology First
 Birth unfolds optimally when undisturbed. We study the body’s natural capabilities.

The Prenatal Imprint
 From conception through postpartum, experiences shape the nervous system for life.

The Role of the Doula
 You are not there to manage birth.
You are there to protect the conditions in which it can unfold.

Training Structure

This is a 3-day, in-person immersion (24 hours total) combining:

  • Lecture and scientific framework

  • Philosophical depth and discussion

  • Practical, hands-on application

  • Embodied learning and integration

What You Will Leave With

  • The Science of Physiological Birth: A deep mastery of how the body is innately equipped to unfold undisturbed and how to protect that process.

  • The Doula’s Toolkit: A curated set of hands-on physical comfort measures and emotional anchoring techniques for labor and postpartum.

  • Ethical Advocacy Framework: A grounded, professional approach to navigating the modern birth landscape while maintaining client-centered care.

  • Professional Certification: A certificate of completion documenting your 24 hours of intensive training toward your Doula credentials (for Pennsylvania participants, this satisfies the required educational component necessary to apply for the role of Certified Perinatal Doula through the Pennsylvania Certification Board, a necessary step to begin your professional practice, receive a national provider ID number, and to bill Medicaid for your services. Private insurance companies may also reimburse you for your services upon request)

Becoming a Certified Perinatal Doula (CPD) in the state of Pennsylvania with Medicaid Reimbursement

    Nirvanic Birth Doula Training

    Complete the 24-hour Nirvanic Birth Doula Training, which provides the core competency requirements set by the Pennsylvania Certification Board (PCB). This is the foundational step toward your state credential.

    State CPD Certification

    After completing the training, attending 3 births, and becoming CPR certified, you can apply for your Certified Perinatal Doula credential through the PCB (Pennsylvania Certification Board). This professional standing is the "key" that unlocks your ability to serve the community through Pennsylvania Medicaid.

    Direct Medicaid Reimbursement

    Once certified, you can enroll as a direct-pay provider. You will be eligible for a total reimbursement of $2,200 per client—including $1,000 for birth support and $1,200 for prenatal/postpartum care.

A Retreat for Learning and Connection

That's why this training is held in a lovingly restored, stunning Victorian manor where historic beauty, warmth, and modern comfort come together to create an atmosphere of calm and connection. Surrounded by rich colors, elegant architectural details, antique furnishings, and welcoming spaces, you'll be invited to slow down, engage deeply with the material, and build lasting relationships with fellow aspiring doulas. Start your morning by brewing a cup of coffee in the spacious shared kitchen, enjoy relaxed conversations between sessions on the outdoor patio, treat yourself to a soak in the hot tub, or simply settle into one of the inviting common areas for a quiet moment of reflection. The manor is conveniently located with easy access from major roadways and is just minutes from a variety of local restaurants, cafés, and shops, making meals and downtime effortless. More than a training venue, this setting becomes part of the experience, offering a sense of retreat that nurtures both learning and restoration. The exact location will be shared with registered participants prior to the training. Optional on-site lodging is available for an additional $150. Space is limited.

    • Day 1: Foundations & The Prenatal Period

      The Evolution of Birth & The Role of The Doula

      We examine the shift from community-centered birth to institutional care—and what was lost in the process.

      You will come to understand the Doula as:

      • A protector of the birth environment

      • A guide who reinforces maternal agency

      • A steady presence rooted in awareness, not authority

      We also address:

      • Racial disparities in maternal outcomes

      • The impact of systemic structures on birth experience

      Professional Ethics, Boundaries & Confidentiality

      True support requires clarity.

      You will learn:

      • Ethical scope of practice

      • The role of informed consent

      • Maintaining confidentiality and trust

      • How to support without overstepping into medical territory

      Epigenetics & The Prenatal Environment

      What happens before birth shapes the human being for life.

      We explore:

      • How maternal stress and emotional states influence gene expression

      • The concept of the “Evolved Nest”

      • The biological expectations of a developing baby

      Prenatal Support & Holistic Wellness

      You will learn how to guide clients toward:

      • Nourishment that honors the body’s signals

      • Movement that supports optimal fetal positioning

      • Reduction of environmental and lifestyle toxins

      • Recognition of intimate partner violence and appropriate support pathways

  • The Physiology & Psychology of Labor

    Birth is an emotional and spiritual event—not a mechanical one.

    We study:

    • The natural roles of oxytocin, melatonin, cortisol, and adrenaline

    • Why privacy, darkness, and safety are essential

    • The disruption caused by observation and intervention

    Birth is also reframed through a lens rarely discussed:
    It’s deeply instinctual, mammalian, and yes—sexual in nature.

    Labor Support Techniques

    You will gain practical tools including:

    • Hydrotherapy and touch

    • Sound-based breathwork (Nirvanic Breathing)

    • Movement and positioning aligned with physical laws

    • Use of tools to support physiological labor

    You will also learn:

    • How to reduce unnecessary interventions

    • How to support informed refusal without confrontation

    Supporting the Birth Event

    We move into the moment of birth itself:

    • Understanding the fetal ejection reflex

    • Supporting non-directed pushing

    • Protecting the Golden Hours after birth

    • Delayed cord clamping and placenta reverence

  • The Postpartum Nest

    Postpartum is not an afterthought.
    It is a critical biological phase.

    We cover:

    • The 42-day laying-in period

    • Nervous system regulation and maternal recovery

    • Structuring support to prevent depletion and depression

    You will learn how to help families create a true postpartum “Nest”:

    • Food systems

    • Boundaries around visitors

    • Rhythms of rest and care

    Newborn Care & Lactation

    The newborn is not separate from the mother—they are still one system.

    You will learn:

    • The Breast Crawl and early latch support

    • The biology of infant sleep and proximity

    • The impact of early separation

    • The role of the microbiome and gut-brain connection

    Complications, Loss & Sustainability

    While birth is designed to work, you must be able to recognize when it is not.

    We cover:

    • Identification of true emergencies

    • Foundational response awareness

    • Supporting grief, loss, and silent births

    And equally important:

    • Your own healing as a Doula

    • Avoiding burnout and self-sacrifice

    • Modeling wholeness for the families you serve
